Talk on John Redpath

Our YouTube channel has a video of an excellent talk on John Redpath, who was a driving force of our organization in our early years when we were known as a mechanics’ institute. The talk traces Redpath’s life and his immense contributions to the economy as well as the political and social institutions of Montreal and Canada.

The Life and Legacy of John Redpath (1796-1869): A Talk by Richard Feltoe – Nov. 21, 2024

The talk was part of our Lunchtime Series in partnership with the St. Andrew’s Society of Montreal.

Our 2024 Fundraiser

Our Annual Benefit Cocktail Party was a tremendous success and raised funds that are a vital component of our lean budget for operations and programs. Held on November 6 in our own building, the gala evening featured live music by the Dave Turner Jazz Trio, an online auction and an exhibition of Montreal cartoons by Terry Mosher (Aislin) and Jacques Goldstyn (Boris). We are grateful to our generous sponsors and donors as well as all who bid in the auction and purchased tickets.

Guest of Honour Andrew Molson gave an inspirational talk about the Atwater Library’s valuable contribution to the quality of community life and termed us “cool”!

Terry Mosher aka Aislin served as emcee and our President, Bruce Bolton, paid tribute to Andrew Molson.

Nahlah Ayed Discussing Her WWII Book

On June 4, 2024 the Atwater Library and Paragraphe Bookstore co-hosted author and broadcaster Nahlah Ayed in conversation with journalist Julian Sher about her new book The War We Won Apart. The book tells the story of one of the most decorated couples of World War II, Sonia Butt and Guy d’Artois, who made their home in the Montreal area after the War. Our Adair Auditorium had a capacity audience, including several members of the d’Artois family, and many others attended virtually.
