Discussion on Westmount Southeast Revitalization

Eminent architect Phyllis Lambert and a host of other concerned citizens filled our Adair Auditorium on May 8, 2025 for a public conversation about revisioning the area around our heritage building.

Four panelists made presentations that are on our YouTube channel. Distinguished conservation architect Julia Gersovitz led off and was followed by McGill Architecture Professor Annmarie Adams, McGill Urban Planning and Architecture Professor Nik Luka, and affordable housing expert and lawyer Robert Cohen.

The rallying cry was for low-rise, human-scale densification. Compelling reasons were given for rejecting the City of Westmount’s proposal to rezone for a forest of high-rises, especially a 25-storey tower next to the Atwater Library.
